Democracy went up for sale in Nigeria as lawmakers of the “Hallowed chamber” were captured on tape selling their votes to the proclaimed winner, Femi Gbajabiamila, the new Speaker of the house.
The National Assembly Clerk, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Omolori can be seen and heard in the video openly allowing the process of the sale of the votes-for-dollars to be credited to voters when they send an image of their vote and green debit card number to a given phone number.
The Methods of Vote Sale and Verification for $ Inducement
Lawmakers were given two ways to sell their votes and get paid.
- Snap a picture of your ballot paper with your chosen candidate and your Green Gbaja credit card and send to a certain phone number and get paid
- If you don’t want to do that you openly show your vote to a group who tick your name in a register so you get your money.

It must be noted that the the act of taking pictures of votes is illegal according to the electoral act.
While Nigerians have been fighting to stop politicians in general elections buying votes from the public for sums of N3-5,000 per vote, the system of vote-buying and selling has now rather graduated to a sophisticated style in APC-leadership endorsed corruption in the House of Assembly with lawmakers given an initial deposit of $10,000 on the Gbaja Green card and then paid as much as $40,000 more when they showed evidence of voting for Gbaja/Wase.
As unbelievable as it sounds, this entire corrupt process was aired on national television to the view of bewildered Nigerians and the whole world.
With this introduction of electronic advanced corruption by US accused Gbaja and other implicated APC-leadership members in the Hallowed Chamber in 2019 when Nigeria is hoping to move forward, the prospects for the country look more bleak.
It can be predicted that all House votes will similarly be electronically bribed with inducements loaded onto the Gbaja Green cards. Corruption is now pre-loaded.
Gbajabiamila has recently come under focus for stealing $25,000 from a certain Ms Habayatou in the US who lost her eye and 7 teeth in an accident. The lawmaker was caught after the organized theft when the victim complained to US authorities, and in a plea deal was suspended from practice in the US and forced to pay his victim the stolen sum. It appears the lawmaker has introduced his levels f=of Advanced fraud to the Nigerian Assembly under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The evidences presented in above video and several pictures released online cannot be denied. It is left to see what President Muhammadu Buhari does about the illegitimate Speaker of the House. Will such illegal fraudulent practice be promoted and supported in Nigeria or will Gbajabiamila be dethroned and prosecuted? The world are watching in shock and utter disappointment.
